Pitiful paint and texture with VOCs….

What’s a low VOC paint mean?  VOCs are volatile organic compounds.  Carbon-containing substance which outgases not only during the application but also over time.  Low VOC paint is to meet the Green Seal standard.  The brand we chose did not have a true grey color, but fortunately we found a different paint sample and they matched it perfectly.  We are very happy with our true grey which does not have a purple or green cast to it.

Through this process, I learned that oil based products, especially a drywall repair aerosol can product smells TERRIBLE and I could never be convinced that it’s okay to breathe.  The drywall repair guy did not get the memo about using the low VOC materials in our home.  One afternoon, he came to repair around the shower tile.  The entire house smelled like a can of oil paint.  It was a beautiful day outside, so the windows were opened, the fans were on and we went outside.  Fortunately, he was able to scrape it off and come back the next day with the regular mudding application which was not out of an aerosol can and had minimal odor which dissipated much quicker.
